Pilates is a disciplined physical system which was created by German anatomist Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century. Joseph Pilates, was originally a trapeze artist in a German Circus. He became an anatomist out of necessity, because of WWI and then introduced Pilates into America as a way to help injured athletes and dancers safely return to exercise and maintain their fitness. Through a series of precise, controlled movements it targets all muscle groups in the body whilst working on posture, functionality and flexibility. It’s also one of the ultimate mindful training practices, aiding stress and anxiety relief through breathing exercises, which is one of the key principles of Classical Pilates. Through the practice of Contrology, defined by Joseph Pilates himself as “complete coordinate of the body, mind, and spirit”, pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.


Dorothy Raynor, Founder and Owner of Dottie’s Pilates Plus Studio, comes with over 30 years of experience, teaching and practicing pilates. Along with receiving comprehensive certification for pilates through Ellie Herman Studio’s, Dorothy is a certified Medical Asssistant, a personal trainer, a holistic health coach and a Reiki Master. She is passionate about treating the body as a whole, and focuses on integrated and functional approaches to better your physical and mental well-being.
